Devaux, Collymore in RBC main draw
T&T Paul Devaux, St Lucian Daniel Collymore and Armani Rosemond
advanced to the main draw in the Boys Under-10 Division after qualifying
action at the RBC Junior Tennis Tournament at the Eddie Taylor Public Tennis
Courts at Nelson Mandela Park, St Clair, yesterday.
And in the Under-14 category, it was T&T’s Connor Carrington and Keyondre
Duke booking their places for the main draw action starting today.
Devaux continued from an opening round triumph on Saturday in division
two, 6-1, over compatriot Alex Murren by prevailing over another one of his
countrymen Mikael Matthews, 6-0. In the same division, St Lucian
Collymore battled to a 6-3 victory over T&T’s Nicholas Mc Letchie, while
another St Lucian Jelani Flermius got a walk-over victory over Cian Clifford
(T&T).
Rosemond, another St Lucian standout, was a 6-2 winner over Disanyo
Stephen.
In the boys U-12 division, the pair of Christopher Khan and Oliver Harragin,
the numbers one and two seeds respectively, prevailed over Noah Blanc
(T&T) 4-2, 2-4, 10-4 and Gabriel Mansoor (T&T), 4-1, 4-1 for their places in
the main draw.
Only the day before, Khan was a 5-4(2) winner over Novak Malcolm and
Harragin triumphed over Malachi Leach in straight sets, 4-0, 4-0.
Darius Rahaman also progressed from the U-12 division after his 4-0, 4-0
win over Aayush Sharma of India on court two.
Meanwhile, in the boys U-14 division, Connor Carrington, the number two
seed, followed up from his 4-2, 4-0 triumph over Zhade Leonce on Saturday,
by beating Justin Horsford in straight sets, 4-1, 4-2, and Keyondre Duke, the
third-seeded player in that division, defeating Josiah Hills 4-2, 4-2 for the
right to contest the main draw.
