Social Scene with Gercine Carter
It was a light-hearted, festive diplomatic affair when the Consular Corps of Barbados recently celebrated the Christmas season with the annual mingle at Southern Palms Hotel after a two-year hiatus.
General manager of Southern Palms and Honorary Consul for Denmark Britta Pollard was once again the gracious hostess, serving up delightful holiday fare, while guests mingled and chatted against a background of music and the calming waves of the Caribbean sea lapping the shore of St Lawrence Gap in Christ Church.
The occasion was special for Honorary Consul for The Bahamas and Dean of the Consular Corps Selwyn Smith, who launched his memoir My Journey through The Public Service.
Former honorary Consul for India Dr Mohini Harris was also recognised for her contribution.
Assuming the role of MC for the evening, Honorary Consul for Jamaica Ella Hoyos welcomed the guests saying: “How good and pleasant it is that after a twoyear hiatus, we can gather together in our usual fashion to fellowship and socialise as we mark the festive season.”
Guest of honour was Minister of Foreign Affairs Kerrie Symmonds. Also on the invitation list were some ambassadors and high commissioners resident in the island and heads of international, and regional organisations including Caribbean Development Bank president Hyginus Leon.
