Not what God wants!
Christians crusade against big salaries for politicians, constitutional reform, UWI gender policy
MEMBERS of the Freedom Come Movement used last week to stage numerous demonstrations to underscore that they will not remain silent while the Government passes laws which the group finds to be against what God wants.
The Freedom Come Movement, a group of Christians from different denominations, is taking a stand against what it describes as “immorality”.
Last Friday members of the movement, who identified themselves as supporters of the Reverend Jeffrey Shettleworth, stood outside Emancipation Park in St Andrew with placards denouncing abominations.
“No to the repeal of the buggery law,” read one placard. “No to the gender agenda,” said another while one protester held a sign which read “The word of God stands forever”.
One female member of the group said there was no way she will accept many of the things that the Government seems to want to force on Jamaicans.
“They want to change our constitution and they want same-sex marriage and abortion to be legalised and we do not agree with that. The Word of God says those things are an abomination. I say it is an abomination because I going with the Word of God,” the woman told the Jamaica Observer without providing any proof that the Government is planning these changes.
Another of the protesters said she is a defender of what is right.
“We are here because we are standing for what is right in our country. We are standing for what is right under the laws of God. I want our nation to be under God so we are here in solidarity with Apostle Shettleworth and all the brethren who are standing up for righteousness,” the woman said.
Last Tuesday, which was observed locally as Labour Day, members of the Freedom Come Movement flocked to Mandela Park in Half-wayTree, St Andrew, to participate in an event where they held hands, prayed and denounced what they found to be immoral across the island.
The group denounced the proposed new gender policy at The University of the West Indies, which, if introduced, will require people at the institution to be referred to by the gender with which they identify.
Joseph Buchnor, who described himself as a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, said he had to participate in the outreach activity to educate the public that God holds authority over the nation and the Government.
“In fact, he has authority over all nations and all governments and God has instituted government in order to promote what he has commanded in the holy scriptures. If any government, anywhere in the world, implements laws that are against God’s commands then we who believe in God and follow Jesus as our Lord and saviour have the obligation to help the nation and our Government know what God wants us to do,” said Buchnor.
“As God’s people we are to be fully informed as to what is happening so that as we pray we do so from the standpoint of knowing what the issues are, and then the spirit of God will guide us in how to act and guide others so that all nations under God will increase in beauty, fellowship and prosperity. People need to know that there are threats to our liberty and what is required of them,” added Buchnor.
