and surrounding marine areas as the T&T Meteorological Service

today.
The alert states: “There continues to be a high (70 per cent to 80
per cent) chance of heavy showers/thunderstorms affecting
Trinidad, Tobago and surrounding marine areas. These conditions
are associated with the passage of an active tropical wave
interacting with the ITCZ. Conditions are expected to
intermittently deteriorate over the period.”
The Met Office added: “Heavy downpours can lead to isolated flood
events that may cause temporary traffic disruptions and gusty
winds may be experienced in the vicinity of heavy showers and
thunderstorms. Seas can also become agitated which may hamper
marine activities.”
For a yellow-level moderate alert, there is the potential for
possible injuries, where behavioural changes are required to ensure
safety. There may be minor damage to property, with incomeearning temporarily disrupted and a couple of communities
affected.
The TTMS advises the public to be alert to cloud-to-ground
lightning activity, not venture into flood waters, take the necessary
precautions in sea-related activities, and monitor weather
conditions and updates from official sources.
Yesterday, strong thunderstorms moved across Trinidad, with
isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms affecting Tobago,
producing gusty winds up to 60 KM/H and isolated rainfall totals up
to 100 millimetres favouring northern and western halves of
Trinidad that triggered street and flash flooding.
